Wedding Weekend in Dewey

Fall 2019 and David and Lily were getting hitched at the beach. It came as no surprise to the family that Beach House Dewey at Block Party Hotels was the chosen location for their base camp during the week of the wedding. David and his brothers chose Beach House Dewey due to the proximity to the beach and bars.  David, "We love the smiling service we always receive when staying here with Mike and his team".  The fam have been staying at Beach House Dewey since David was school-age.   The bride and groom kicked off the weekend inviting the wedding party, friends and family to a warm welcome with chilled Orange Cruses at The Starboard across the street.

Brekkie from Baked Coffee Bar made sure guests were fuelled for the big day on Saturday.   The ceremony and reception took place over at the Rehoboth Beach Country Club, a short drive from Block Party.  Tears of joy, lots of laughter, salty kisses and sunshine memories made for a great experience when tying the knot in Dewey Beach.

Poodles Doing Doodles in Dewey

Brian, Krista and Barclay headed down to Atlantic Oceanside Dewey from Philadephia for the annual 'Doodles in Dewey' event in last Spring. Barclay is a 25 lb labradoodle who loves to 'run-a-muck' on the sand at Dewey Beach.  Extending the weekend and staying Thursday to Monday gave the family more of a chance to relax into the activities. Game time starts on Friday Night with the parade on Rehoboth Beach Boardwalk, followed by an early night in with a movie and carry-out pizza from the next-door restaurant Mama Maria's. Saturday's hours were filled with making furry friends on the sand. There is usually upwards of 700 dogs on the beach that weekend and it's so much fun!

Dewey the Dog

Dewey the dog was named after Dewey Beach, a favorite weekend spot for his human parents. He loved running on the sandy beach and being chased by the waves.   His first visit as a puppy, a weekend in the summer of 2022, he spent the evenings digging in the sand and chasing seagulls. What he loved most from his visits to Delaware was going to Woody's (1904 Coastal Highway) with his human friends. French fries were his favorite to sneek off the table.  He couldn't resist!  Dewey would wag his tail and give them his best puppy-dog eyes until they gave in.   Dewey and his humans stayed one of the King Rooms that overlook downtown Dewey at the Atlantic Oceanside Dewey.   There was plenty of space in the room for his crate and bed with easy access to the pet relief area outside.

Company Bonfire

As the autumn leaves began to fall and the air turned crisp, the sea birds of Dewey Beach witnessed a flock of 30 individuals from a corporate entity out of Washington DC, embark on an exciting retreat, staying at Beach House Dewey. Nestled along the coastline, this hotel stood as a perfect sanctuary for their much-anticipated gathering.

The group arrived at the downtown hotel welcomed by the symphony of crashing waves and the gentle whispers of the sea breeze. The welcome crew exuded warmth and connection as guests arrived.

To kick off their retreat, the team organized a delightful picnic dinner on the spacious pool deck.   Tables adorned with flickering candles lanterns created a picturesque setting. Laughter and conversation filled the air as the group savored a delectable array of dishes from around the globe, curated by the team leader.

To complement the scrumptious dinner, a small make-shift bar was set up offering a selection of wine, locally crafted beer, and the famed "Dark and Stormy" cocktails. The clinking of red solo cups and the laughter amplified as the evening progressed. The vibrant hues of the sunset painted the sky, creating a breathtaking backdrop for the bonding and camaraderie among colleagues.

As the night deepened, the group, now more relaxed and jovial, walked the celebration down to the beach with Tiki torches in hand, as though they were setting off for Tribal Council #Survivor.    A crackling bonfire was set up on the sandy shores by Dewey Beach Surf Shop casting a warm, golden glow against the darkening ocean. Tunes emerged from Spotify and speakers, filling the air with melodic tunes as spontaneous singing and storytelling ensued.

The ocean waves provided a rhythmic soundtrack while individuals toasted marshmallows for s'mores, sharing childhood memories and tales of personal adventures. The flames danced gracefully, casting playful shadows on the faces of the team members, as they shared jokes and anecdotes under the star-studded sky.

As the night wore on, and the embers of the bonfire glowed low, the group remained, wrapped in blankets, provided as gifts, feeling connected and rejuvenated. Each person felt a sense of unity and camaraderie that transcended the typical work environment.

The Beach House Dewey retreat had not only brought them closer to nature and each other but also left an indelible mark on their collective memory, fostering a sense of unity and connection that would resonate long after the waves washed away the imprints in the sand.

The Chambers family had been looking forward to their beach vacation at the Atlantic Oceanside Dewey for months. As soon as they arrived, they rushed to their room, eager to unpack and start their adventure. The room was cozy, with two double beds and a view of the swimming pool.

For breakfast, they chose Sunrise!  A cute little diner, only a short walk, serving delicious choc-chip pancakes and fresh coffee.   Following the refuel, the family enjoyed a quick dip in the pool most mornings, before heading to the beach. The kids loved playing in the sand and chasing the waves, while the mom and dad relaxed under the umbrella, reading their books.   Mom noted how she enjoyed being so close to the beach, given the supplies you take with you for a day on the sand with the fam.

Taking a break from the waves for a day, the family hopped on their bikes (rented from the hotel lobby) and rode to the town of Rehoboth Beach, exploring the candy shops, boutiques, the magic of the boardwalk without skipping the indulgence of a cone of Kohr Bros. Frozen Custard!

At night, they would return to their hotel room, exhausted but happy. They sometimes ordered pizza from Mama Maria's and watched the sunset from the Sundeck at Atlantic Oceanside Dewey.  Other nights, they visited Rusty Rudder and Woody's.

It was the perfect family vacation, full of love, laughter, and unforgettable memories. The Chambers family always treasure their time at the Atlantic Oceanside Dewey and the beautiful Delaware coastline.
